Gatineau Kennels

Gatineau Kennels existed from circa 1942 through 1953 and was the first kennel of the partnership of C. S. MacLean and J. D. McFaul. McFaul was the actual breeder and kennel manager; MacLean financed the kennel, which existed for purposes of winter patrol on the Desert River preserve of the Gatineau Fish and Game Club of Maniwaki, Quebec.

The Gatineau bloodline began with the purchase of three Siberian Huskies from William L. Shearer III's Foxstand Kennels in Boston, Massachusetts. The foundation stock were Bayou of Foxstand, Foxstand's Skivar 2nd and Foxstand's Saint. The first litter (by Saint out of Bayou) was born in June 1942 and twenty-three litters in all were bred, the last in December 1953.

Inasmuch as the Harry R. Wheeler Seppala Kennels breeding stock and kennel name were acquired by the partnership in 1950, the Gatineau dogs were gradually phased out and sold off in favour of the pure Seppala Wheeler stock, and breeding continued for another ten years under the Seppala Kennels name.
