Originally Chinook Kennels belonged to Arthur T. Walden, adventurer and founder of the Chinook dog breed. Walden's participation in the Byrd Antarctic Expedition in 1928-29 kept him too long away from home at a bad time. Prior to his departure he had entered into a partnership with Milton and Eva B. Seeley; events during his absence resulted in a situation in which Walden lost control of Chinook Kennels and the dogs there. Thereafter Chinook Kennels was the Seeley's enterprise. The Chinooks rapidly took a back seat to Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. Soon it also became a staging post for US Army and Navy sled dog supply and training activities. Today the property in Wonalancet, New Hampshire, although in great disrepair, is considered an historical monument by New England dog fanciers.
